- Residual cognitive-motor slowing following COVID
- Severe COVID-19 patients have an increased risk of subsequent lung cancer

When I started in security, one of the prevailing attitudes was "The weakest link in the chain will always be the human."

I'm amazed at how often, when I tell people I am COVID cautious, mask while traveling, and avoid crowds during surges, people will respond, "That's probably smart, but I don't do that."
I can't tell if that's their way of moving off the topic or if they're legitimately acknowledging they know better but can't adjust their habits.

My rough hypothesis for that is:
People have collective PTSD for that time .. and the best way to avoid it is to mentally pretend it has all gone away and let thoughts slide past it.
Also, humans seem to be mostly reactive instead of proactive. If something is not having a clear and present impact on their immediate lives they can ignore it till it does.
