I went to a sleep clinic which is in a hospital last week. The doctor kept asking me if I was sick and why was I wearing a mask. Told him βnot sick and wearing it to stay that wayβ. Iβm tired of educating physicians on basic science.
@dgodon I believe so. Some doctors smoked for many years after the science of smoking became known. And poor Ignaz Semmelweis had his recommendations on handwashing so thoroughly rejected, he was committed to an asylum and beaten to death by the guards. A decade or so later, the science of handwashing became accepted.

"Surgeons are gentlemen and gentlemen's hands can't be dirty (even after doing autopsies), how insulting that is!" I feel so sorry for that poor Ignaz Semmelweis, especially knowing how he died. And that all these years later the medical profession refuses to act on scientific evidence in the same way. How many other people will have to die?
@elliek Itβs bizarre to me that there were not massive changes in infection control in hospitals in the wake of COVID. What a huge opportunity that was missed.
@alihan_banan Me too. But a decade or two from now we may wonder why every doctor met with patients on masked when there was so much data that suggests they should do otherwise. There was a time when doctors so rejected research on the value of handwashing, that the person who did the research was put in a mental asylum by his peers where he was subsequently beaten to death. Doctors are not superhuman.
yeah, humans and their love to stick to whatever they're doing even if new stuff is factually better. And handwashing stuff really is brutal. I can't imagine how many died to unhygienic routine

@PizzaDemon I've been waiting for studies to corroborate that one, but I've not seen any. I'd love to see research on the impact of reinfections on IQ.
quite a few doctors here (Italy) now advise their patients against the covid vaccine because "covid is just like flu now" and at the same time they recommend the same patients to get the flu vaccine... π€

Even TB Clinic doctors smoked in 1950s.
Like other professionals, there are good and bad doctors.
Some teachers smoked in class in late 1960s.
